LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's water polo team went on a 7-3 run in the second half to defeat the visiting Chapman Panthers 11-7 Wednesday afternoon at Las Flores Park.
It was a big win for the Leopards as they look to stay in contention for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. At 4-3 in conference play, the Leopards currently sit in the fourth spot a half game in front of Redlands. La Verne improves to 6-10 overall.
Chapman falls to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the SCIAC.
Chapman was led by Mia Chanove's two goals and one assist.
How it Happened
The Leopards got off to a hot start, taking an 4-0 lead under six minutes into the contest and looked like they would blow out the visitors.
But Chapman didn't quit and went a 4-0 run of their own and shut the Leopards out in the second quarter to even the game.
The Leopards responded out of the break outscoring the Panthers 4-1 in the third to pull away for good.
The Leopards are back in action on Thursday when they play Brown University at 7 p.m. at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce.
