LA VERNE, Calif. — Perez went over 30 points for the fourth time this season and the Leopards finished the game with nine three-pointers.
But the Redlands Bulldogs went on a run late in the second quarter to take the lead for good, beating the University of La Verne women's basketball team 81-62 Wednesday night.
Perez finished with 32 points and five assists shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc. The junior totaled six three-pointers, tying her career high.
Jessica Hanashiro nearly notched a double-double finishing with nine points on 4-6 shooting and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Leopards started off hot from behind the arc with three three-pointers by Perez and another by Alexa Withers to take an early 12-8 lead.
Perez needed less than five minutes to notch her 11th straight game in double figures and 12th this season, finishing the first quarter with 15 points.
Despite the on point shooting in the first, early turnovers helped keep the Bulldogs in the game.
The Leopards surged ahead in the opening five minutes of the second quarter, taking an 11 point lead after a three by Bailey Kurahashi. But the Bulldogs shut La Verne down in the final minutes of the half, going on a 14-0 run to take a 43-40 lead into the locker room.
Perez got the Leopards back into the game with a three with just over three and a half minutes remaining in the game to get the Leopards to within 10 points. But the Leopards would get no closer.
Kurahashi scored eight points with two three-pointers. Janice Deguerio grabbed five boards in her first start of the season.
Cassandra Lacey led Redlands with 25 points with Reyna Ta'amuadding 16 points.
Season Impact: La Verne drops to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Next Game: The Leopards head to Pasadena this Saturday to take on the Caltech Beavers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Braun Athletic Center.
