SOUTH GATE, Calif. — The Univerisity of La Verne swimming and diving teams continued to post solid results on day two of the Collegiate Winter Invite Saturday at the South Gate Swim Stadium.
The men's and women's relay teams performed well with each squad finishing in the top-9. The women's 200 yard medley relay posted the best finish, placing third overall and first among NCAA Division III teams. Mary Hanna, Rachel Fox, Kayla Yip, and Rachel Miyoga finished with a time of 1:53.63 to open the evening finals. The men's 200 medley relay team made up of Lorenzo DeLeon, Guillermo Yanes, Javier De Santiago, and CJ Woodward finished at 1:42.24 to place eighth.
In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the women's team came strong again with Hanna, Yip, Fox, and Ashley MacAskill again posting the fastest Division III time at 8:25.94 to finish fifth. On the men's side, the Leopards touched ninth with Kristofer Grigorian, Brandon Pon, De Leon, and Woodward finishing with a time of 7:32.35.
Hanna added to her busy day in the relays with a solid performance individually as well. The senior touched third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.59. Hanna finished just behind Biola's Heather Heacock (59.59) and Concordia Irvine's Rachel Stinchcomb (59.77), both represent Division II institutions.
Yip won the 100 yard butterfly consolation final and placed ninth overall with a time of 59.86.
Pon added his second top-5 finish of the winter invite on Saturday. After placing second in the 500 yard freestyle yesterday, Pon posted a fifth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.99.
De Leon added fifth place finish of his own. De Leon touched at 54.50 in the 100 backstroke and was second amongst Division III swimmers.
The Leopards conclude the Winter Invite tomorrow with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
