LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne softball team's seniors led their squad to an exciting 10-2 win in the final game of the 2019 season. Seniors Carly Condon, Rachel Ogata, Melissa Garcia, and Sienna Kendricks accounted for all 10 RBI in the victory.
Garcia got La Verne on the board in the first inning, hitting a three-run bomb over the center field fence to give her squad the opening lead.
Not to be outdone, Kendricks hit a three-run homer of her own when she blasted a shot to dead center in the fourth that put the score at 8-2. Kendricks notched her first RBI of the day in the third inning when she doubled down the left field line to score Gabriella Underwood. Kendricks finished the day 3-4 at the plate.
With bases loaded in the second inning, Ogata made a big diving catch in left field to end the inning and help preserve the Leopards' lead. She added to the La Verne's lead in the fourth when she hit an RBI single up the middle that brought home Kayla Giannatasio and extended the Leopards' lead to 5-2.
Condon put the final stamp on the game when she hit a bases loaded double in the fifth that scored a pair of runs and ended the game. Condon finished the game with two doubles.
The 2019 senior class is one of the most decorated in La Verne softball history, leaving the program with three SCIAC Regular Season Championships, one SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship, and one trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Jiana Rojo picked up her tenth with of the season going three and two-thirds innings with a strikeout. The Leopards played tough when needed, getting out of four innings with the bases loaded.
La Verne ends the season 16-23 overall and finishes SCIAC play in fifth place with a 12-15 conference record.
