LA VERNE, CA — Charles Ortega earned Second Team All-America honors the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced Wednesday morning.
The junior transfer had an outstanding season in his first year wearing the green and orange. Ortega led the SCIAC with 81 goals, 14 more than the next closest player, and ranked second in the conference with 95 points. The Covina native also ranked in the top-10 in the SCIAC with 30 steals.
"This honor is completely warranted and deserved," said head coach Pat Beemer. "He was our emotional and statistical leader all year and it's nice to see other coaches recognizing what he meant for us."
The Covina native scored three or more goals in 13 games and notched at least five goals in six games. Ortega added 44 drawn exclusions and 14 assists in his debut season.
The Leopards will return the bulk of their squad next season.Watch Live Follow ULV Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
