Lilly hauled in eight passes for 274 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in a 50-48 shootout against Whitworth. Lilly opened La Verne's scoring with a 40-yard reception on the Leopards' first possession and all of his scores either tied the game or gave the lead to La Verne. On the first play of the second half, Lilly blew past the Whitworth secondary for a 77-yard score and added an 80-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter, both of which flipped the lead back to La Verne.
Lilly was a nightmare for the Whitworth secondary until the final whistle. With time running out, Justin Gomez slung a Hail Mary pass to Lilly and incredibly, Lilly got both of his hands on the ball and came down with it. However, as the senior wideout landed, he was kicked in the side and the ball came lose, sealing the win for the Pirates.
The Lake Elsinore native averaged 34.2 yards per catch and all of his six touchdowns came from William Livingston, who was tabbed the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
The Leopards are on a bye this week and will start SCIAC action against Occidental on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.Follow La Verne Athletics on Twitter @ULV_Athletics Like La Verne Athletics on Facebook Follow La Verne Athletics on Instagram @ULV_Athletics Sign up for our newsletter
