LA VERNE, Calif. — Junior linebacker Christian Lozon and senior defensive lineman Nik Gutierrez of the University of La Verne football team earned 2014-15 USA College Football Network Preseason All-America nods this week. Lozon was named to the First Team and Gutierrez was selected to the Third Team.
Lozon, who took a break from football after high school, transferred to La Verne last year and made an immediate impact. The Yorba Linda, Calif., native played in all nine games last season and registered 27 tackles and two pass breakups.
Gutierrez, a 2013 Second Team All-SCIAC selection, is La Verne's returning sacks leader after recording 2.5 in 2013. The Pomona, Calif., native also notched 29 tackles (10 for loss), two pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles.
