Thomas, Peres collect All-Region honors

LA VERNE, Calif. — Jakob Thomas and Christopher Peres of the La Verne baseball team took home multiple All-Region honors on the same day, being named to and ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region Teams on Tuesday.

Thomas was tabbed First Team utility player by ABCA/Rawlings and First Team outfielder by Peres was selected Second Team utility player by ABCA/Rawlings and Third Team utility player by

Thomas, who mostly played corner infield in 2015 and catcher in 2016, moved to outfield this season and emerged as a true all-around threat at the plate. The junior hit .370 while hitting 10 home runs and driving in 40 runs. He also posted an incredible .542 on-base percentage and scored a SCIAC-leading 50 runs.

Peres, who posted a triple slash line of .379/.460/.462 as a freshman last year, emerged as a true utility player. He took on the role of staff ace, hit in the middle of the order and split time at third and first bases on the field. The sophomore hit .336/.377/.386 while driving in 35 runs. He posted a 6-2 record while posting an outstanding 3.06 ERA. He also struck out 9.72 batter per nine innings in SCIAC which was good for second in the conference behind only SCIAC and West Region Pitcher of the Year Felix Minjarez of Redlands.

The pair of honors are Thomas's second and third All-Region awards of his career and Peres's first two. Thomas was named to Third Team All-West Region last year.
