Castillo Leads La Verne At SCIAC Championships
Senior Micaela Castillo led the University of La Verne women's cross country team at the 2011 SCIAC Cross Country Championships by finishing 16th overall to earn All-Conference honors at the meet held Saturday at Prado Regional Park in Chino.
Castillo passed several competitors down the stretch to complete the six-kilometer course in a time of 24:18.68. It marked the first All-SCIAC peformance in cross country for Castillo in her career as she was the lone Leopard runner in the field to garner All-Conference recognition.

As a team, La Verne finished seventh with 158 points and totaled 2:10:03.96, an average of 26:00.80.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took top honors at the meet with 38 points followed by Whittier (82), Occidental (90), Pomona-Pitzer (111), Redlands (131), Cal Lutheran (154), La Verne and Caltech (229).
Junior Katie Barrese concluded the meet with a 25:13.33 time to place 30th overall. She was followed closely by junior Andrea Arceo, who placed 34th with a 25:26.77 clocking.
Leopard junior Sydney Rose earned a Top 50 finish as she completed her race with a time of 26:11.56 to place 50th overall.
