Leos Fall to Oxy on First Day of SCIAC Championships
The Leopards took on Occidental College in the first day of the SCIAC Tournament, hosted by Whittier College, where they fell to the Tigers in a 5-3 final on Friday afternoon.
La Verne took a 1-0 lead with a goal by Erika Vargas at the beginning of the first quarter. Occidental then scored a goal to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the second. The Tigers would score two goals before the Leos responded back with a goal by Bethie Ross resulting in a 3-2 Oxy advantage at halftime.
The Tigers would score a pair of goals in the third quarter, while holding the Leopards scoreless for the 5-2 lead. La Verne would battle in the final quarter of play, keeping Occidental from scoring, but they would only be able to get one more goal in the back of the net, resulting in a 5-3 Tiger victory.
La Verne will be taking on Whittier College at 10:00AM for the second day of the Championships. For more information about the tournament click HERE.
