Leos Fall to Sagehens in Overtime

The University of La Verne women's water polo team fell to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in SCAIC action on Wednesday evening in Claremont. After taking the match into overtime, the Hens would end up on top in a 9-6 final.

A goal by Bethie Ross would put the Leopards up 1-0 after the first quarter. La Verne would go scoreless in the second, while Pomona-Pitzer went on to score three goals to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second half.

Both teams would score a pair of goals in the third quarter, with the Leopards' goals scored by Maddie Lovrensky and Erika Vargas.  La Verne took the lead at 6-5 after posting three goals in the fourth quarter, but a goal by the Hens in the last 30 seconds of regulation play sent the game into overtime.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to score two goals in the first set of overtime, and one in the second, holding the Leopards scoreless in the extra session for the victory.

Ross led the Leopards with two goals while goalie Lauren Shepard recorded nine saves in the match.

The Leopards will be back at home on Saturday as they continue conference play with a match against the Occidental Tigers. The game will begin at 11:00 am at the La Verne Aquatics Center.
