ULV Earns Triumph Over Connecticut College
The University of La Verne women’s water polo squad earned a solid 9-3 non-conference victory over the visiting Connecticut College Camels Wednesday afternoon at the La Verne Aquatic Center.
After going up by one goal at 5:22 in the first quarter, ULV (2-5) never looked back en route to their second victory of the season. ULV led 8-0 by halftime and the Camels only managed to score thrice in the second half.
Senior utility Lindsey Watson notched four scores for the Leopards, including the first two in a span of 53 seconds. At the end of one, the Leopards held a 5-0 edge as senior Kari Erikson (2:36), junior Jen Aguilar (1:57) and freshman Tiffany Martin (0:30) went on to add goals.
Watson collected her other two scores in the second period and sophomore Catherine Campos gained the next one prior to intermission. The Camels responded with their first score of the match at 7:20 of the third, but the Leopards answered back with one of their own 50 seconds later when sophomore Mahina Reyes registered a goal. The Camels (0-1) recorded their last two scores in the final four minutes of the fourth.
For the game, junior goalkeeper Lindsay Jones produced a fine outing in protecting the Leopard cage after making 12 saves.
ULV returns to action competing in four contests at the Claremont Convergence over the weekend. The first affair is Saturday against Macalester (MN) at 10:30 a.m. in Claremont.
