Leopards Drop Opener To Chapman
Mahina Reyes registered three goals for the University of La Verne women’s water polo squad while goalkeeper Lindsay Jones had 13 blocks, but it was not enough as ULV dropped their 2008 season opener, 5-4, to the Chapman Panthers Sunday noon at La Verne Aquatic Center.
Reyes gave ULV (0-1) a 1-0 lead with 6:34 in the first quarter, but the Panthers knotted the score less than two minutes later. The Leopards gained a 2-1 advantage at 2:31 in the second quarter when Jennifer Aguilar knocked in her first goal of the campaign. They then acquired a two-goal edge (3-1) with 1:32 remaining after Reyes scored.
Chapman responded with four unanswered goals before Reyes netted her third goal at 2:13 in the fourth quarter. In addition, Reyes collected one steal while teammate Lindsey Watson had two assists.
The Leopards next play host to Gannon on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
