With the win, the Leopards improve to 14-9 overall and 6-5 in SCIAC play. The Bulldogs fall to 11-12 overall and 2-10 in the SCIAC.
Sievers led all players with 12 kills on .333 hitting. Celaya finished with a .381 hitting percentage with 11 kills to go with three aces.
Setter Madison Maynes had another outstanding game for the Leopards. The junior finished with 32 assists and seven digs. She also kept the Bulldogs their toes with her dump balls, totaling seven kills in the match.
How it Happened
The Leopards dominated from the get-go, scoring eight of the first 10 points to take the early lead. La Verne took a 15-4 lead off of a pair of Bulldog errors, two Winiecki kills, and a nice dump ball from Maynes that took Redlands by surprise. The Bulldogs took a timeout to regroup but it didn't help. The Leopards kept rolling and Celaya and Winiecki ended the set with back-to-back kills.
The Bulldogs played the Leopards close in the second, getting to within a point of La Verne's lead when a block by Sofia Olsson put the score at 16-15. That was the wake up the Leopards needed. La Verne responded by going on a 9-0 run highlighted by a Celaya ace and a big block by Sievers and Winiecki. Another kill by Maynes gave the Leopards the 2-0 set lead.
La Verne pulled away late in the third set. Sievers knocked down three straight kills to set up match point, and Maynes ended the match with an ace.
The Leopards hit the road on Friday when they take on the Caltech Beavers at 7 p.m. in Braun Gymnasium.Watch Live Follow ULV Athletics on Twitter Like us on Facebook Watch on Youtube Follow us on Instagram
