2012 Volleyball Schedule Released
University of La Verne volleyball has released its schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The 25-match schedule includes 13 home matches at Frantz Athletic Court and six opponents that competed in the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Leopards will open the season with a pair of tournaments beginning with the Pacific Coast Classic co-hosted by La Verne (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) followed by the Posada Royale Invitational in Thousand Oaks (Sept. 7-8).
La Verne gets an early test against quality opponents at the Pacific Coast Classic. The Leos open against UMass Boston and Colorado College on August 31 while also playing host to NYU Poly on September 1. All three teams participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
A week later, the Leos play four matches at the Posada Royale Invitational, which includes the first of two contests this season against UC Santa Cruz. The Leopards and Banana Slugs face off on Sept. 7 in Thousand Oaks and will meet again on October 19 at Frantz Athletic Court during La Verne's Homecoming Weekend.
With the addition of Chapman to the SCIAC, the Leopards embark on a 16-match conference schedule which begins on September 14 against Pomona-Pitzer at Frantz Athletic Court. The Leos' first official road contest of the season occurs four days later against defending league champion Cal Lutheran.
La Verne hosts Chapman on September 25 in the first-ever conference match between the two schools. The Panthers along with Cal Lutheran and Occidental were entrants in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Last season, the Leopards finished with a 17-12 overall record along with a 7-7 mark in SCIAC play. A total of eight letterwinners return for the 2012 campaign.
