Chidester Takes Assistant Coaching Post At Long Beach State

After two seasons as graduate assistant volleyball coach at La Verne, Erika Chidester has been hired as the top assistant at her alma mater Long Beach State University.

At La Verne, Chidester was involved in nearly every capacity of the volleyball program during her two seasons and was instrumental in guiding the Leopards to a pair of SCIAC Championships along with a West Region title and national runner-up finish in 2008.  Additonally, Chidester coached club volleyball for Cal Juniors and Golden West volleyball clubs and also coached at Lakewood High School during the 2006 season.

"It is an exciting time and bittersweet to see Erika take the first assistant coaching position at Long Beach State," said La Verne head coach Don Flora.  "She fit the Leopard coaching mold and was able to push this program to new heights.  Her ability to teach athletes and also relate to them was a definite asset to the program."

Chidester spent five years as a player in the Long Beach State program (including one medical redshirt season), earning All-Big West honors on three occassions.
