CLAREMONT, Calif. — Catalina Lee Kim won the triple jump on the final day of the 2017 SCIAC Track and Field Championships and the La Verne women's track and field team finished fifth overall.

Lee Kim's margin of victory in the triple jump could not have been thinner. The junior recorded the winning jump of 11.26 meters (36 feet, 11.5 inches) on her penultimate attempt and edged Liz Lee of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who recorded a leap of 11.24m (36-10.50) on her final attempt, by a mere inch.
Lee Kim added two more All-SCIAC finishes to wrap up her conference season. She finished the 100m hurdles in a personal record time of 14.85 second to place third and ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay (Alexandra Cormier, Lee Kim, Dreama Gonzales, Jade Griffin) that finished second with a time of 49.36.
A day after winning the 3,000m steeplechase, Melissa Cerrillos went 18:06.03 in the 5,000 meter run to win the bronze medal.
Carmen Sandoval held her seed in the 400m final as she came in third with a time of 58.99.
Jessica Portillo jumped one seed from sixth to fifth in the 400m hurdles as she finished the race in a personal record time of 1:07.33.
A select group of Leopards will continue to compete over the next two weeks to improve their marks for national championship qualification, starting with Claremont Classic Multis on Thursday.
