Women's Track Enjoys Solid Showing At SCIAC Quad Meet
The University of La Verne women's track and field team took part in the first SCIAC Quadrangular Saturday in Claremont and enjoyed some top performances in the early season portion of the schedule.
Though the Leopards fell to CMS (107-55) and Cal Lutheran (108-49) in dual meet scoring, several women enjoyed solid efforts on the day.
On the track, Micaela Castillo placed first overall in the 1500 meters, nearly breaking the 5-minute barrier before finishing in 5:00.01. Castillo returned to place fourth in the 800 meters in 2:31.12.
Sprinter Samantha Tucker placed second in the 200 meters (27.00) while also finishing third overall in the 100 meters (13.27). Multi-sport standout Clarissa Holz - two weeks removed from the basketball court - placed second in the 400 meter hurdles (68.96) while running a leg on the Leopards' third place 4 x 100 meter relay team that finished in 51.86.
In the field, Corbin Henault took top honors in the javelin with a winning heave of 118-0. Bernadette Smith placed second in the shot put (35-8) and third in the hammetr throw (147-8).
