Leopard Women Place Seventh At SCIAC Multi-Dual
The University of La Verne women's track and field team finished 7th overall at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet Saturday at Bonham Track Complex in Whittier.
The Leopards went 1-6 in dual competition with the lone win coming against Caltech (0-7). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured first place with a 7-0 mark followed by Pomona-Pitzer (6-1), Cal Lutheran (5-2), Whittier (4-3), Redlands (3-4) and Occidental (2-5).
Senior Antoinette Borders was the only event winner for La Verne, claiming top honors in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 7 inches. Freshman Clarissa Holz placed second in the 400 meter hurdles clocking in at 67.74 while Jennifer Esparza also earned a second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 121-4. Holz also placed third in the triple jump with a 34-4 performance.
Bernardette Smith place third in the hammer at 141-9. Fourth-place finishers included Borders in the discus (124-6) and Smith in the shot put 36-4.
La Verne will compete in the Concordia Invitational on April 18 as a final tune-up for the SCIAC Championships which begin Saturday, April 25.
