Madrigal Falls In Opening Round Of NCAA Singles Play

The 2013 NCAA Division III Tennis Championship run for freshman Andrea Madrigal came to end as the Leopard frosh dropped a straight sets decision to Denison's Kelsey Geppner 6-3, 6-3 Thursday in the Round of 32 Singles draw in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Despite the defeat, Madrigal enjoyed a historic campaign in becoming the first Leopard tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Madrigal earned the right to compete in the 2013 NCAA Championships after a First Team All-SCIAC selection and a No. 8 West Region ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this season.  She helped propel La Verne to an unprecedented success this season in which the Leopards gained their first-ever national ranking en route to a fourth place team finish in SCIAC play.
