La Verne Earns Victory On Final Day Of SCIAC Tournament

The University of La Verne tennis team concluded action at the SCIAC Women's Tournament by earning a 5-4 win over Caltech in the seventh place matchup on Saturday at the Matador Tennis Complex on the campus of Cal State Northridge.

Overall, the Leopards finished sixth in the final conference standings for the 2012 season based on a combination of regular season and tournament points.

Against the Beavers, La Verne took two of the three doubles matches before splitting the six singles contest to secure the win.

In doubles, the No. 1 tandem of Laina Matsuda and Brooke Hines topped the Beaver duo of Wubing Ye and Stephanie Kwan, 8-1 with the No. 3 team of Arielle Montielh and Valerie Lezin defeating Jessica Yeung and Michelle Lee by an 8-0 verdict.

The Leopards were victorious at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 in singles competition.  The trio of Carly Tucker (No. 4), Lezin (No. 5) and Montielh (No. 6) each won their respective matches in straight sets.

With the win, the Leos improved to 10-10 on the season.
