Leopards Battle Eagles and Tigers
Last Saturday, the Leopards headed out to La Mirada to take on
the Biola Eagles before traveling back to the Claremont Club to
host the University of the South. The Leopards dropped a
close 5-4 finish against Eagles, but struggled in an 8-1 loss to
the Tigers.
The #3 doubles team of Lauren Meeks and Vanessa Vasquez nearly
earned La Verne its first point of the match. After trailing
early, the duo fought back to take a 7-6 lead. However, Brea
Roth and Danielle Calbeck found their rhythm and took a 9-7 finish
for the Eagles.
Vasquez would bounce back and get a win as the #6 singles,
defeating Marvelous Beckman 7-5, 7-5. Jessenia Garcia and
Megan Dean also notched points for La Verne, taking 6-4, 7-5 and
6-4, 6-1 finals respectively. Jen Baca found herself down to
Samantha Weng, but battled back to give La Verne its fourth point,
finishing 4-6, 6-2, (10-8). La Verne kept close, but lost
5-4.
The Leopards hosted the Tigers later in the day at the Claremont
Club, but senior transfer Kelly Griffith was the only one able to
defeat her opponent, topping Julia Wood 7-6, 6-4.
La Verne will resume action this Wednesday, hosting Salisbury
University at the Claremont Club. The match will begin at
12:00 pm.
