Leopards Drop Home Match to #13 Thunder
After defeating the Whittier Poets 4-0 Saturday afternoon, the
Leopards took a break from conference action to host the #13 ranked
Thunder from Wheaton College (Ill.), but fell in an 8-3 finish.
Senior foward Falisha Ramirez started the game off with a goal in
the first 57 seconds of the match. Wheaton quickly responded
when Taryne Lee found Jaime Orewiler for a game-tying goal in the
third minute. The offensive flurry continued, as Ali Kopelman
headed in a goal from a Katelyn Kishkunas cross one minute later.
Brittany Bergh gave Wheaton a two goal lead in the 10th minute, but
Leopard Megan Dean cut the deficit to one on a penalty kick in the
20th minute and La Verne would trail 3-2 after the half.
Ramirez scored her second goal of the game in the early in the
second half, tying the game at 3-3. The goal was her 14th on
the season. The Leopards had a few chances to take the lead,
but the Thunder would go on a five-goal run (Kopelman, Kishkunas,
Bergh, Lee, and Anderson) and take an 8-3 victory.
The Leopards will look to bounce back as they head down to the
city of Orange on Wednesday to take on the Chapman Panthers. The
match will begin at 5 pm.
