Leopard Swim Trio Garner All-Academic Honors
Three members of the University of La Verne swimming & diving team were recognized as All-Academic Honorable Mention by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Both Marc Okimura and Shane Hurter represented the La Verne men while Maddie Lovrensky earned recognition from the Leopard women's team.
To qualify, a athlete must attain a minimum 3.5 grade point average while earning at least an NCAA 'B' cut time in an event.
Lovrensky won both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events at the 2012 SCIAC Championships as a freshman en route to a pair of school records at the meet. She posted winning times of 57.46 and 2:06.01 in the 100 and 200 backstroke, respectively, to earn SCIAC titles as a freshman.
A dual sport athlete, Lovrensky also earned All-Academic honors in water polo this season.
A senior from West Covina, Hurter earned All-SCIAC honors in both the 100 and 200 backstroke at the conference championships. He swam to a 50.90 effort to place second in the 100 back and later finished third in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.44.
A sophomore from Punahou, Hawaii, Okimura placed second in the 100 breaststroke (57.40) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.58) at the SCIAC Championships en route to a pair of NCAA B cut efforts.
