La Verne Finishes Second At NCAA Golf Championships

For the second time in three seasons, the University of La Verne earns a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships after finishing in the runner-up spot Saturday at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
La Verne shot a combined 291 on Saturday to complete the tournament at 1168 to finish four strokes behind Oglethorpe University (1164), which shot 289 on the final day. Third round leader Methodist University placed third at 1171.
Junior Mitch Fedorka shot a 73 (+1) on Saturday and tied Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson for first place in the individual standings with a four-round total of 285 (-3) for the tournament. Loftsson prevailed in the playoff to capture the individual title.
The Leopards earn their third consecutive Top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships after a 2nd place effort in 2007 followed by a 9th place finish in 2008.
Leopard senior Rizal Amin also carded a 73 on Saturday to finish in third overall at 287 (-1). Andrew Kramer enjoyed the low round of the day for the Leos firing an even par 72 to finish at 292 to place in a tie for sixth. Eric Bunge also shot 73 (+1) for his final round with Kevin Smith completing his fourth round with a 76 (+4).
La Verne completed the tournament as the only squad to place three golfers (Fedorka, Amin, Kramer) in the Top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
