Four Leopards Earn First Team All-SCIAC Softball Honors

Four members of the University of La Verne softball team were honored as First Team selections to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as announced by the league office Wednesday.

The honorees include seniors Tara Allis (second base) and Dee Dee Burns (outfield) along with sophomores Jackie Duran (designated player) and Raven Freret (at-large).

Allis and Burns earned their fourth selections to the All-SCIAC team with both garnering a third selection to the All-Conference First Team during their careers. 

Burns hit .435 on the year and led the Leopards in hits (57), home runs (6) and runs scored (39).  She ranked second in the conference in total bases (89) and fourth in the SCIAC in batting average, homers and slugging percentage (.679).  

Starting in each of her 34 games played, Allis was among the team leaders in batting average at .376  and runs scored with 31 on the season.  She also drove in 26 runs along with three homers and eight doubles.

Freret led the Leos in batting average at .458 which ranked third overall in the conference.  She also drove in a team-high 41 runs which ranked second among SCIAC leaders.  Additionally, her slugging percentage of .653 ranked fifth overall in the conference. 

Duran hit .369 on the season finishing with 41 hits and 28 runs batted in.  She also totaled 18 runs scored along with seven doubles and two homers on the season.

La Verne concluded the season with a 19-17 overall record and a fifth-place finish in the league standings.
