Facing the nation's No. 16 team in Division III, the University of La Verne hung in with the University of Redlands but couldn't hold on, as the Bulldogs rallied to take both games of a doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 7-5 in SCIAC action Saturday in Redlands.

Redlands (26-8, 18-2 SCIAC) countered in the fifth.  After Linda Park walked, Molly Duran blooped a single with two outs.  With Park on her way to third, the Leos committed a throwing error which led to an unearned run.

The Bulldogs added two more runs when Rikki Scates hit an RBI single to score Janelle Carrasco, and Park later drove in Scates on a double to put the Bulldogs in front to stay.

La Verne had an opportunity in the top of the seventh when it loaded the bases with two out.  The threat ended when a liner by Amanda Copas was hauled in by Park for the final out as the Bulldogs preserved a 3-2 win.

In the second game, the Leopards jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Dee Dee Burns led off with a double, advanced to third on an Amanda Hastings ground out and scored on a sac fly from Allis.  Redlands tied the game in the bottom of the first with a run on two hits.

In the third, La Verne tallied three runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead as Breeanna De La Rosa doubled to left center and would score on a Burns single.  A double by Amanda Hastings advanced to third and Allis followed with a bunt single to plate Burns.  Hastings scored as Allis was caught attempting to steal second base.

The lead was short-lived as Redlands posted five runs in the bottom of the inning.  he Maroon and Gray quickly answered with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning.  Duran belted a bases-clearing double to highlight the frame, while Scates and Park also recorded RBI to go up 6-4.
