Leopards Make Strides At UC Irvine
The University of La Verne men's cross country team competed against a strong field of runners at the UC Irvine Invitational and enjoyed strong performances en route to a 15th place team finish at Anteater Recreation Field Saturday morning.
La Verne competed against a talented field which included 12 schools holding either Division I, II or NAIA affiliation.
Host UC Irvine (76) placed first in the team competition followed by Cal Poly (110) and The Master's College (131).
The Leopards were led by Alex Forbess who turned in yet another solid effort with a 26:38.7 clocking on the eight-kilometer course, good for 58th overall. Forbess finished 8th among SCIAC competitors.
Freshman A.J. Licon was the next fastest La Verne finisher placing 99th overall with a time of 27:14.6. Matthew Sustaya was close behind as he crossed the finish line in 27:28.4 to place 108th overall.
The Leopards will next compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Oct. 2.
