Fortugno Posts Top Preliminary Time In 400 Meters At NCAAs

Senior Marcus Fortugno and sophomore Chancise Watkins both qualified for the final of the men's 400 meters, with Fortugno posting the top overall time of the preliminary heats on Day 2 of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Burns Track Complex in Claremont.

Both Fortugno and Watkins were in the second of three preliminary heats of the men's 400.  Fortugno broke ahead of the field at the homestretch on his way to a time of 47.83.  Watkins finished third in his heat in 48.34, posting the sixth best overall time in the prelims.

The men's 400 final will be held Saturday at 3:50 pm.  Fortugno, who also qualified for the 200 meter final will also be competing in that event, scheduled for 5:20 pm on Saturday.  Paul Turner will also compete in the final of the men's triple jump, slated for a 12:50 pm start.
