Leopards Drop Home Opener

The University of La Verne men's soccer team dropped their 2010 home opener against the University of Redlands in a 3-2 final Wednesday at Ben Hines Field.

Danny Connors scored the Bulldogs first goal in the 27th minute of play.  This was shortly followed by a goal from Cory Carlson off an assist by Pat Roraff.  La Verne made runs at the goal, but would remain scoreless in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 2-0 advantage into intermission.

La Verne came out firing in the second half with a goal by Joshua Hill, assisted by Mario Cisneros.  Redlands came back late in the game with another goal, this time by Gilbert Flores.  Although Luis Chavez was able to score a second goal for the Leopards, they would still fall short in the 3-2 defeat.

The Bulldogs tallied 15 shots in the contest compared to 14 for the Leos.  Leopard goalie Jonathyn Lomeli came up big for La Verne with 10 saves in the loss.

The Leopards (0-3-1, 0-1 SCIAC) will continue conference play in Los Angeles on Saturday night as they take on the Occidental Tigers at 7 pm.
