Zachman Selected To 2012 All-Nicklaus Team
La Verne junior Derek
Zachman was named to the 2012 All-Nicklaus Team as announced by
the Golf Coaches Association of America. Zachman was one of
24 players from Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA who earned
All-Nicklaus Team recognition for their outstanding play during the
past collegiate season.
This season, Zachman was a Division III First Team All-America
selection with the Leopards in addition to earning Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year
honors.
Hailing from Auburn, Calif., Zachman finished in a tie for seventh at the recent NCAA Division III Championships, helping lead La Verne to a 14th place team finish. In addition, he led the Leos to a sixth straight SCIAC team title in April.
The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988.
The Nicklaus Award is annually given to the top collegiate men's golfer in Divisions I, II, III, the NAIA and the NJCAA. Former La Verne standout Mitch Fedorka earned the 2009 Division III Nicklaus Award as National Player of the Year.
