Leopard Golf Team Officially Set For NCAA Championships
Though the University of La Verne golf team had already qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championships, official word came today as the field of 210 competitors and 46 institutions were announced.
The championships will be held May 15-18 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. and hosted by Oglethorpe and the Central Florida Sports Commission.
La Verne was one of 31 squads to receive an automatic bid by virtue of winning its sixth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title in April at Diamond Valley Golf Course in Hemet.
Three teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent schools and schools that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for an AQ. The final seven berths were reserved for Pool C, which are schools from AQ conferences that were not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.
The SCIAC is well represented as Cal Lutheran, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands made the field as Pool C entrants. Additionally, Whittier's Doug Kennedy chosen to compete as one of five individuals.
