Leopards Finish 3rd At SCIAC #5 Tournament
In the final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference match before next week's championships, the University
of La Verne placed third overall combining to use 304 strokes
Sunday at the Empire Lakes Golf Course in Rancho Cucamonga.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished in first place in the team
standings at 293 with Occidental College placing second a stroke
ahead of the Leopards at 303. Redlands(305) finished fourth
followed by Whittier College (309), Cal Lutheran (317) and
Pomona-Pitzer (318).
Senior Mitch Fedorka was a model of consistency during the tournament, needing 36 strokes on both the front and back nines to card a 72 for the day, finishing third in the individual standings. Fellow senior Eric Bunge was a stroke behind with a 73 (34-39) to place in a tie for fifth overall.
Other Leopard competitors included Adam Hancock who shot a 77 (36-41) to finish 15th overall among individuals. Kevin Smith (82) placed 34th while Ryan Waring and Matt Bernal tied for 35th with respective rounds of 83.
The SCIAC 36-Hole Championship will take place Monday, April 26 and will be held at the SCGA Member's Course of Murrieta. The Leopards currently sit in third place in the overall standings, trailing co-leaders CMS and Redlands by a point entering next week's tournament.
