Golf Team Takes Third At SCIAC #3
Five University of La Verne golfers shot at 77 or better as the Leopards placed third overall at the SCIAC #3 Tournament Sunday at Los Serranos Country Club hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.
Mitch Fedorka enjoyed the low round for the Leopards by shooting a one-over 73 (36-37) to place sixth overall on the Par 72 course. Behind Fedorka was Kevin Smith, who shot 74 (38-36) to finish in a tie for seventh.
Eric Bunge (40-36) and Adam Hancock (38-38) each finished their respective rounds with a 76 to earn a 10th-place tie in the individual standings. Keven Holliday followed with a 77 (38-39) to round out the Leopard contingent.
La Verne was one of three teams to break 300 for the day as Redlands claimed first place (293) with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (295) placing second. The Leopards finished 11 strokes ahead of fourth-place Occidental (310) and 12 strokes over Whittier (311). Chapman (318) placed sixth ahead of Pomona-Pitzer (320) and Cal Lutheran (321).
The Leopard golf team next will compete in the single-day St. Patrick's Day Invitational on March 17 at East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
