NCAA Championships: La Verne Drops To Third Heading Into Final Round
The University of La Verne golf team dropped to third place overall at the NCAA Championships, shooting a combined 302 (+14) on Friday on the Par 72 Dye Course at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
La Verne will enter Saturday's final round six strokes behind overall leader Methodist University.
Methodist, which lead after the first round of play, reclaimed the overall team lead with a third-round total of 289 to move to 871 after three rounds of play. Oglethorpe (875) stands in second place followed by the Leopards at 877. University of Texas-Tyler (886) is in fourth while Illinois Wesleyan (889) holds the fifth position heading into Saturday.
Mitch Fedorka maintains the top spot on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 74 (+2) on Friday to pace the field with a three-round total of 212 (-4). Rizal Amin and Andrew Kramer each shot 73 for the day, with Amin residing in third place at 214 (-2) thru three rounds. Kramer is in a tie for 11th overall at 220 (+4). Leopard teammates Eric Bunge and Kevin Smith followed with rounds of 82 and 84, respectively.
The Leopards are poised for their third straight Top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships after placing second in 2007 and finishing ninth in 2008.
