Leopards Sit In Fifth Place Thru First Round of NCAA Championships

 

Led by junior Mitch Fedorka, the The University of La Verne golf team find themselves tied for 5th place during first round action Wednesday at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

The Leopards shot a collective 292 (+4) on the Par 72 Dye Course (7123 yards) to conclude their first round.  Methodist University (NC) rolled to a round of 279 on the Ryder Course (6953 yards) to move into first place overall.  St. John's (MN) is in second at 288  followed by Skidmore (NY) and University of Texas-Tyler tied for third at 291.  La Verne, Emory (GA) and La Grange (GA) sit in a tie for fifth at 292.

Fedorka paced La Verne with an opening round of 67 (-5) to earn a share of the lead in the individual standings and is tied with Methodist's Tom Cooper atop the overall leaderboard.  senior Rizal Amin carded an even round of 72 while Kevin Smith finished with a round of 76 (+4).  Junior Andrew Kramer shot a 77 (+5) while Eric Bunge concluded first round action with an 80.
