La Verne Captures SCIAC #5 Tournament
The University of La Verne won its fifth consecutive conference tournament this season by claiming top honors at the SCIAC #5 Thursday at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo.
The Leopards, ranked 6th in the latest Golfworld/Nike Golf Division III Coaches Poll, posted a team total of 292 (+8) to finish three strokes ahead of second-place Redlands (295) and five strokes ahead of tourney host Cal Lutheran (297). CMS placed fourth at 303 followed by Pomona-Pitzer (308) and Occidental (309).
ULV's depth was evident as five of its golfers placed among the top six, led by Mitchell Fedorka who fired a 71 (34-37) to finish in a tie for second place in the overall standings. Chris Davis finished tied for fourth with a 73 (35-38). Three Leopard golfers carded a 74 to place tied for sixth overall. The trio included Rizal Amin (39-35), Jordan Talah (38-36) and Kevin Smith (38-36).
Cal Lutheran's Garrett Teichmann earned first place in the overall standings with a round of 69 (32-37).
La Verne next competes at the SCIAC 36-Hole Championships held Monday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
