Leopards Rank #2 Nationally In Strength Of Schedule

The University of La Verne football team has played the second toughest schedule in the country through October 29, according to latest D3football.com Strength of Schedule (SOS) rankings.

In the latest rankings, La Verne has an overall SOS percentage of .670, ranking only behind Huntingdon College (.712).

The overall schedule strength is determined by using opponents' winning percentage and opponents' opponents' winning percentage among Division III schools. A team's SOS is two-thirds opponents' winning percentage (OWP) and one-third opponents' opponents' winning percentage (OOWP).

La Verne has faced three teams currently ranked in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll.  That trio includes Linfield (#5), Cal Lutheran (#9) and Redlands (#15).  The Leopards' SOS percentage does not include NAIA member Azusa Pacific, currently ranked #11 nationally in the NAIA Top 25.  La Verne faced APU in its season opener on September 10.

"The rankings definitely reflect the caliber of teams we've faced throughout the season," said Leopard head coach Chris Krich.  "Every week we've been tested, but we've always gone into every week with the mindset to win."

La Verne resumes action this Saturday to face SCIAC foe Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
