Castillo Leads Leopard Contingent At West Region Invite

The University of La Verne women's cross country team took part in the West Region Preview meet Saturday in Claremont, with sophomore Micaela Castillo earning top Leopard finish in her 2009 debut.
A total of six Leopard runners competed in the meet which featured 10 teams. Division I member UC Irvine took first with a total of 25 points. Occidental placed second with 68 points, with UC Santa Cruz third with 94.
Competing in her first race of the season due to injury, Castillo finished 60th overall with a time of 26:06 on the 6-kilometer course, one minute off her personal best. Bridgett Blazys placed 64th overall, completing the course in 26:14 with Sydney Rose finishing 67th (26:20).
The Leopard women next compete at the SCIAC Multi-Dual, held Oct. 17 in La Mirada.
