Jones Named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week
La Verne's Crista Jones was named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week on Dec. 7 after her standout performance at the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, Illinois.
A 5-11 middle blocker from Fresno, Jones earned a selection to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Championships as the Leopards earned a national runner-up finish.
Jones began with a 10-kill, 3-block effort in La Verne's 3-0 win over New Platz State in the quarterfinals on Nov. 20. The following night against Juniata College she hit .302, recording a team-high 18 kills along with 4 blocks and 2 service aces as the Leopards rallied to defeat the #1-ranked Eagles 3-2 to reach the championship match.
She concluded with a 16-kill, 3-block performance against Emory in a 3-1 defeat in the NCAA final. A 2008 AVCA First Team All-America selection, Jones combined for 44 kills and 10 blocks in the three matches as the Leopards finished the season with a 27-3 overall record.
