Gonzales Named SCIAC Female Athlete Of Week
Volleyball standout Brianna Gonzales has been named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week on Nov. 19 for her efforts in leading La Verne to the West Region title.
A senior from Whittier, Gonzales was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA West Regional as she helped propel La Verne to the region championship and a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinal in Bloomington, Illinois.
Gonzales totaled a match-high 27 kills in a 3-1 triumph over Cal Lutheran in the championship match, while also registering 12 digs to collect a double-double. Against Nebraska Wesleyan a night earlier, she recorded 16 kills and 19 digs in a 3-1 triumph over the Prairie Wolves in semifinal action.
Gonzales has earned numerous accolades this season. She has earned First Team All-America honors in addition to being named 2008 SCIAC Player of the Year. Gonzales was also named to the 2008 All-West Region team.
