CMS Vs. ULV Recap
La Verne earned a 3-0 sweep over SCIAC foe Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Match #3 of the Leopard Invitational by scores of 25-23, 25-12, 25-21.
The Leopards were down 20-18 in the first set before finishing on a 7-3 run, culminating in a Crista Jones kill to put the Green and Orange up 1-0. La Verne cruised in the second stanza, hitting .400 while limiting CMS to a .063 clip.
The Leos opened strong in the third set by grabbing leads of 20-9 and 24-11 before the Athenas reeled off 10 consecutive points to postpone elimination. Jones however closed out the match on a kill to end the CMS rally.
Jones hit .632 in the contest, totaling a match-high 13 kills. Brianna Gonzales and Ashley Morgado chipped in with 9 and 6 kills, respectively. Setter Yesenia Lopez posted 34 assists for the Leopards. For the Athenas, Angela Estrella-Lemus tallied a team-high 7 kills.
La Verne improves to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in conference action while the Athenas drop to 13-8 and 5-2.
