Leos Earn 3-1 Triumph Over Sagehens

Falisha Ramirez put on a virtuoso performance with a pair of goals and an assist in helping propel La Verne to 3-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC action Saturday at Ben Hines Field.
The conference leader in goals, Ramirez put the Leopards on the board in the 39th minute with an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead. The advantage would be short-lived, as Pomona-Pitzer would tie the game three minutes later on a goal from Katy Metcalf to knot the contest at 1-1 heading into intermission.
The Leopards (5-9-1, 3-5-1 SCIAC) regained the lead six minutes into the second half when a Ramirez throw-in connected with Ashley Vanga on a header into the net to give the Leos a 2-1 lead.
La Verne added a third score courtesy of Ramirez, as the senior forward scorched the Sagehen defense with yet another unassisted goal at the 71:27 mark to provide the game's final margin.
Pomona-Pitzer recorded 12 shots on goal on the day compared to 9 for the Leopards. Additionally the Hens (3-11-1, 2-7-1 SCIAC) registered 9 corner kicks to just one for La Verne.
Ramirez has 18 of the Leopards' 25 goals this season and has tallied two goals in each of her last four games.
The Leopards are back at home on Wednesday when they play host to California Lutheran for a 4 pm start.
