About The Program

The football program at the University of La Verne enjoys a storied past over its 82-year legacy. The philosophies developed by the legendary Roland Ortmayer (1948-1990) still exist today. ULV football boasts of a tradition of conference championships and all-conference players while understanding the time demands the football can present to the student-athlete. La Verne has enjoyed a wealth of success in recent years as the 1990s summoned in the era of excellence as the Leopards produced winning seasons in eight of the 10 seasons.

The mission of the Football Program of the University of La Verne is to distinguish itself as a quality athletic program through the pursuit of excellence based on sound educational principles and practices that operate within the philosophy and guidelines of the University of La Verne, the SCIAC conference, and the NCAA Division III.

As a team we strive for: graduation within four years; a well-rounded, diversified education; active participation within all aspects of the campus community; and overwhelming success both on and off the football field. We hold the tradition of the ULV football graduates in great honor, and recognize their legacy in both the university community, and the football program.

From 1991-96, ULV sported a 46-8-1 mark, winning three straight SCIAC championships (1993-95) along with a two consecutive unbeaten regular seasons in addition to earning the school's first-ever NCAA playoff berth in 1994. This span included a 21-game regular season winning streak as well as a 25-game SCIAC winning streak. This tradition of excellence continued in 2000 with the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year award once again going to a La Verne student/athlete.

Under the guidance of Andy Ankeny, the 2009 campaign promises to be a return to the storied season adding to the rich traditions established by past Leo greats. We hope to see you there!
