A 53-yard run by Garrett Carr on a fake punt in the second quarter along with an 80-yard pass reception by Josh Ollison early in the third quarter helped Whittier (3-4, 1-3 SCIAC) earn its first conference win of the season.
The Poets got on the board first when they intercepted a pass deep into Leopard territory resulting in a 14-yard touchdown run from quarterback Kelly Maguire to grab a 7-0 lead at 12:13 in the first quarter.
The Leos struck back late in the period when Anthony Andre connected with Allen Daniels for a 66-yard touchdown to tie the contest at 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

After the break, the Poets added another score when Ollison took a short pass from Maguire, eluded one Leopard tackler and raced 80 yards to the end zone and a 28-7 lead.
The Leopards (0-7, 0-5 SCIAC) continued to fight and would score on the ensuing possession. Andre found Daniels for a score, this time from 12 yards out to cap a 6 play, 69-yard drive to cut the gap to 28-14.

The Leopards got the ball back and drove into Poet territory, reaching the Whittier 29-yard line before surrenduring possession on downs with 6:32 remaining. Whittier however didn't relinquish the ball it maintained possession with a 10-play drive to end the game.
