Volleyball's Gonzales Recognized As NSCA All-American

Brianna Gonzales (2007, 2008) is La Verne's first two-time SCIAC Player of the Year since Amy Kratochvil (2002, 2004)

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recently awarded University of La Verne volleyball standout Brianna Gonzales with one of its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year awards which recognizes the student-athletes' dedication to strength training and conditioning.

This year the NSCA awarded 207 collegiate athletes from 116 schools across the United States.

Gonzales was selected by Leopard strength coach Matt Durant.  "In her four years, Brianna improved her approach jump by 6 inches," said Durant.  "Not only has she been a leader on the court but also in the strength program.  Her presence in the weightroom not only benefits our volleyball team but each of our female athletes at La Verne.  She is exactly the type of athlete that a coach looks forward to coaching each and every day."

Gonzales is a two-time First Team All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and is also a two-time Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Player of the Year.  She helped lead the Leopards to a ninth consecutive SCIAC crown and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships during the 2008 season.

The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 30th year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc.
