Ludvik Selected To ABCA All-America Third Team; Earns Spot On National Gold Glove Team
Senior Jacob Ludvik has been selected Third Team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and is one of nine players named to the ABCA/Rawlings 2012 Division III Gold Glove Team for the 2012 season.
Ludvik was the offensive catalyst for the Leos this season, concluding the regular season with a team-high .405 batting average, which ranked third among conference leaders. He led the the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in doubles with 17 and was among the league leaders in hits (69, 2nd), runs scored (43, 2nd), total bases (94, 3rd), and runs batted (36, 5th).
His efforts helped lead La Verne to the 2012 SCIAC Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. He was the lone Leopard representative on the McMinnville Regional All-Tournament Team.
Defensively, Ludvik registered 129 putouts on the season with a fielding percentage of .992 in his 42 games played en route to earning National Gold Glove honors.
The Gold Glove Awards are chosen by the ABCA All-American Committee for each Division. All Gold Glove Award recipients distinguished themselves as the best defensive players at their respective positions throughout the course of the season.
Ludvik, who recently graduated with a 3.94 overall grade point average, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Baseball First Team last week as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
"For Jacob to be named to both the Academic All-America team as well as the All-America team for baseball, and then turn around and win a National Gold-Glove is amazing," said head coach Scott Winterburn. "I don't imagine that there are too many college students in the history of the game that can claim a trio of awards like that. He is a legacy player, and his example will be followed for many, many years to come"
A 2011 First Team All-SCIAC and Third Team D3baseball.com All-West Region selection, Ludvik was selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week (April 2-8) earlier this season.
La Verne finished the season with a 26-16 overall record and a 20-8 mark in conference play en route to the SCIAC crown, the 20th league title in program history.
