Four Leopards Participate In SAAC's "Read Across America" Program
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has continued its involvement with the greater La Verne community as four Leopard student-athletes through SAAC recently took part in reading to students at Kingsley Elementary on March 7 as part of “Read Across America Week” nationwide.
The participants included junior Catie Logan (volleyball), sophomore Brent Stephan (men’s basketball) sophomore Shelby Broyles (women’s swimming & diving) and Marc Okimura (men’s swimming & diving).
The student-athletes read to the fifth grade class of David Morales, a University of La Verne alumnus. “I had a wonderful time with the kids,” said Stephan. “It was great to see their reactions and how they interacted with us. It was a fun and rewarding way to reach out and hopefully make a difference.”
SAAC will continue its efforts throughout the Spring with USTA Campus Kids Day (March 24), NFCA Strikeout Cancer Event (April 2) and participating in Special Olympics at Cal Poly Pomona (April 28).
