Woodland, Napolitano Embark On D3Hoops All-Star Tour
Seniors Trevor Woodland and Austin Napolitano are getting an early start to their postgraduate experiences.
Both Leopard basketball players, who were selected to the D3hoops.com All-Star Team, are embarking on a nine-day, seven game excursion through France and the Netherlands from May 21-30. The trip began in New York City where the group assembled before jetting off to Paris.
Woodland was selected to the team in March with Napolitano receiving an invite to the 10-member squad last month.
In addition to the full schedule of games the group will be sightseeing in Paris, Amsterdam and in Den Bosch and Groningen, the Netherlands. The players will also meet with European basketball scouts and will have pro league coaches attend some of the games.
“This is such unique and special opportunity for Austin and Trevor to see the world while playing basketball," said Leopard head coach Rich Reed. "They are both exceptional players who continue to make the University of La Verne and our Men’s Basketball Program very proud. I know they will represent both the university and our program in a first class manner."
Both Leopards reached the 1,000-point career milestone during the 2011-12 season. Napolitano scored his 1,000th point on February 8 at Occidental with Woodland achieving the feat a week later at home against Redlands on February 15.
Woodland led the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in scoring average this season at 17.2 points per game while also topping the conference in three-point field goals with 71 en route to earning Second Team All-SCIAC honors for the second consecutive season. A First Team All-SCIAC selection in 2011, Napolitano averaged 12.8 points per game while leading the Leopard squad in rebounding with 6.4 boards per game in 2011-12.
